Getting fit for your wedding day

According to a survey by You and Your Wedding magazine the average wedding in the UK costs just over £20,000. With the average annual salary in the UK at only £26,000 this is a large chunk of money for any couple tying the knot. With wedding dresses costing upwards of £3000 and venues costing an average of £7,000 it may seem surprising that it has started to become tradition for each person to buy their beloved a lavish present for the day.

I was very fortunate to be best man for my cousins wedding last December. The winter wedding was a joy from start to finish and the whole day was perfection personified. However,  my cousin and his now wife spent over a £1000 on each others wedding day present. A beautiful pair of Louis Vuitton shoes (I must admit I do not know much but shoes, but they did look very nice) and a gorgeous watch for my cousin. The presents were great and the day was amazing, but it did get me thinking, the vast majority of the day would be over in 12 hours. The dress never to be worn again, the venue never to be visited again, the suits and decorations and table dressings, never to be used again. Yes you will have the memories and the astronomical priced pictures but when its over its over.

My cousins wife has not worn her shoes since the wedding in fear of ruining them and my cousin only wears his watch for the most important business meetings. This got me thinking, there has to be a better, longer lasting more appropriate gift you could gift your most beloved on the most memorable day of their lives. Bang! It hit me, health. Health is without  doubt the best gift you can give your other half for not only their big day, but the rest of yours lives together.

Let me explain. What is going to be a better gift to your spouse than the best version of yourself?Now I am not just talking about body composition. You obviously want to both look your best with the spotlight focused on you all day, and for photos that will be viewed by friends and family 100’s of times. But all the other benefits as well. Increased confidence, not just for the day but for all the days you continue to keep fit. More energy, organising a wedding can be exhausting so energise those late nights planning and table setting with a fitter body and a more focused mind.

Maybe the most important benefit is distress. Next to buying a house and having a child, your wedding day is one of the most stressful times of your life. Exercise is better than any drug or remedy for distressing. In the long term various studies show that fitter people live between 12-15% longer than their less fit counterparts. If you have found your soul mate you want to spend as long as possible with them and make the time as enjoyable as possible.

  • Core exercises do not make you lose belly fat ( unless you do them for about 2 hours on a very restricted diet). They do however strengthen your core and when your body fat is low enough give, you a nice shaped tummy. In the digital bootcamp we use hiit workouts to burn fat and core workouts for strengthening your core. Pretty simple really.
